Summary

The earthwork remains of an oval mound, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These were mapped from RAF 1953 aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of an oval mound measuring c.13m x 20m, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound. The mound is centred at TQ 7393 7890 and is one of three located within a single low-lying field within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. This form of mound has been referred to and identified in a contemporary paper on the subject (Spurrell, 1885).These were mapped from RAF 1953 aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
