Findspot record TR 36 SW 76 - Iron Age coins, Cottington Hill, Minster

Summary

Nine iron Age coins were found on Cottington Hill by a metal detectorist in 1991. Despite their poor condition the coins have been subsequently dated to c.100-90 BC. They were made of cast bronze potin and were of Trinovantian type. It is not know where these artefacts are now located.

Full Description

(TR3363) IA coins dated c 100-90 of the Trinovantes tribe, ref no TWRA-WILKA-IA-1-8 & 12, discovered by metal detection at Cottington Hill, in 1991. The coins are made of cast bronze potin and have diameters varying between 15 mm and 18 mm and weigh between 2.35 gm and 3.56 gm. All are Trinovantian A type and are all in either poor condition and/or illegible. No 12 also may be VA 1406-1 (Catalogue reference) (1)
