Monument record TQ 77 SW 230 - Area of ridge and furrow, High Halstow

An assessment of Lidar data carried out by English Heritage in 2009-2012 identified areas of ridge and furrow earthworks.(1,2)

TQ 7693 7489. A small area of Medieval or Post Medieval ridge and furrow, located near the foot of the northern slope of Deangate Ridge, has been mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. Most of the ridge and furrow appears as very slight earthworks on Lidar imagery. (3-4)

Centred at TQ 7651 7493. Three roughly parallel linear earthworks of uncertain date, possibly representing Medieval or Post Medieval field boundaries or the remnants of ridge and furrow, are located on the lower northern slopes of Deangate Ridge overlooking Cooling. The slight earthwork banks range in length from 185m to 300m. The features have been mapped from Lidar imagery as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project, and may be associated with two areas of Medieval or Post Medieval ridge and furrow nearby, to the east (Monument 1549943) and west (Monument 1549939).
