Full Description
(TR3363) LIA coin dated to the mid to late 1st cetury BC. Discovered at Cottington Hill by metal detection in 1991. Coin reference no TWRA-WILKA-IA-17. The coin is made of AR and measures 12.5-15 mm and weighs 1.02 gm. The obverse side shows a Celticized head left, hair composed of 'S' shapes, pellet-in-ring motif on shoulder, wears collar with 2 strands, 2 pellets within 'V' shapes to left of face. The reverse side shows a Celticized horse left, rings and many pellet-in-ring motifs in field; horse has ring on end of nose and pellet-in-ring motif on shoulder with another pellet-in-ring for the eye. It is not in any catalogues. It is possibly a new type, may be British in origin. Coin in good condition. (1)
