Full Description
(TR310564) Four Iron Age coins found near Woodnesborough by metal detectors during 1986-7. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-46-Dated to the 1st century BC or AD. It is made from AE, the diameter is 13-14.75 mm and the weight is 2.20 gm. The obverse side is illegible and the reverse shows a horse left? The coin is extremely worn and identification not possible. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-43-Dated to c 100 BC. It is made from cast bronze potin the diameter is 16.25-17.75 mm and the weight is 3.52 gm. The obverse side shows a head of Apollo left and the reverse shows a bull charging right. It is probably Central Gaulish, Berry region. The coin is in poor condition with some corrosion. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-44-Dated to c 100-90 BC. It is made from cast bronze potin, the diameter is 16.5-18 mm and the weight is 3.80 gm. The coin is rather corroded but the obverse side shows a head of Apollo left and the reverse shows a bull charging right, central boss, MA above. It is a Trinovantian A type. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-45-Dated to c 10-1 BC. It is made from AE, the diameter is 15.25-15.75 mm and the weight is 1.455 gm. The obverse side shows a diademed head right of Roman style and the reverse shows a bull charging left. The coin is part of Scheers series 216 and is of the Northern Gaulish (Gallo-Roman series-Germanus Indutilli L) The coin is extremely worn and is of brassy fabric. (1)
