Full Description

The buildings of interest at this site include a two storey L-shaped red brick building with hipped tiled roof thought to be 19th century in date. A detached weatherboarded shed/garage with pitched tiled roof and brick foundations dating to the late 19th century. A weatherboarded barn with pitch corrugated metal pitched roof which could be late 18th or 19th century in date. Extensions to the western elevation of the barn take the form of two early 20th century weatherboard vehicle garages. (1)

In 2017 the buildings were recorded and the barn and shed were disassembled under a watching brief. The Oast House remains.

"The most significant of these was a timber-framed aisled barn, which had been modified and reduced in size, linked to a granary-type building, which may date to the 17th or 18th centuries. The aisled barn has a timber frame that was assembled using wooden technology, with trenails and mortice and tenon jointing, and its oldest parts appear to be of 16th century date, broadly contemporary with Ledian Farmhouse. The barn has three bays and only one aisle on the south side. The missing aisle was probably removed in the early 20th century. The alterations to the barn had removed over 70% of its original fabric, including the upper part of the roof, but many of the larger timber elements were original. The smaller part of this block, defined as Room C3, had occasional surviving parts that suggest that it also had a timber frame, and may have been late 18th or early 19th century in date, although heavily altered and rebuilt."

"The second building of note was a former Oast House (Building A), lacking most fixtures and fittings,
but containing the main structural rooms and layout with attached dwelling rooms. No further work has been carried out on this building as it lies outside the current development plans. Building B was of little interest, being a simple shed." (2)
