Full Description

(TR33905770) 6 IA coins were discovered near Sandwich by metal detaction in the late 1980s. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-28 Dated to c 100 BC and of the Southern Gaulish. It is made from cast bronze potin, measures 17.5-17.75 mm and weighs 4.395 gm. It is illegible on the obverse side due to corrosion. The reverse side shows a small, neat style bull charging right, exergual line below. The coin has sharply angled edge to flan and has a very smooth feel. Slightly chipped. Weight and closeness to Massilian prototype suggest Gaulish origin. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-29 Dated to c 100-90 BC and of the Trinovantes. It is made from cast bronze potin, measures 17.25-18 mm in diameter and weighs 3.03gm. The obverse side shows a head of Apollo left and the revese shows a bull charging right. Catalogue reference VA 1406-1 (probably). It is also a Trinovantian A and very worn. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-30 Dated to c 100 BC and probably Central Gaulish, Berry region. It is made from cast bronze potin, measures 17-18.5 mm in diameter and weighs 2.895 gm. The obverse side shows a helmeted head of Apollo left and the reverse shows a bull charging right, exergual line below. The coin is less dumpy than 'Thurrock' types. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-32 Dated to c 50-30 BC and probably of the Cantii. It is made of AE, measures 14.5-15 mm in diameter and weighs 2.41 gm. The obverse side shows a boar left, pellet-in-ring motif below. The reverse shows a lion right, pellet-in-ring motifs in field. Catalogue reference VA 154-5. The coin is in good condition. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-33 Dated to c 10-20 AD and probably of the Trinovantes, Cunobelin. It is made of AE, measures 14.25-15.75 mm and weighs 1.65 gm. The obverse side shows a Victory right, holding wreath, V to right. The reverse shows a warrior on horse right, CVN below. Catalogue reference VA 1981-1. It is a Trinovantian U. It is in good condition and already in CCI ? TWRA-TYMAR-IA-34 Dated to c 35-38 AD and of the antii, Amminus. It is made of AE, measures 15-16 mm in diameter and weghs 2.285 gm. On the obverse side there is an inscription 'AM' within rectangular box, encircled by wreath. The reverse shows a Celticized horse right, DVNO below. The catalogue reference is VA 193-1. It is a Cantian N and very worn. Already in CCI ? (1)
