Full Description
(TR3385577) Iron Age coin dated c 50-40 BC of the Ambiani, Viricius. It was discovered by metal detection near Sandwich in 1985. Coin reference no. TWRA-TYMAR-IA-31. It is made of AE, measures 13.75-14.5 mm in diameter and weighs 2.40 gm. The obverse side has a Celticized head left, to right. The reverse has a Celticized horse galloping left, ring below, VIRICIVS above. It is part of the Scheers series 109, class 1 ( cf plate 454). The coin is in very good condition. It was possibly minted at Bois L'Abbe, Eu. (1)
