Full Description

(TR33705655) IA coins (5) were discovered at Worth Hill by metal detection in the 1980's. TWRA-TYMAC-IA-34 Dated to c 10 BC-10 AD and of the Atrebates, Eppillus. The coin is made of AE, measures 15 mm in diameter and weighs 2.06 gm. The obverse side shows a geometric pattern, curve-side square around disc, EP PI CO MF around square. The reverse shows an eagle left, wings spread, pellet-in-ring's in field. Catalogue reference VA 450-1, type Atrebatic H. TWRA-TYMAC-IA-79 Dated to c 10 BC-10 AD and of the Atrebates, Eppillus. The coin is made of AE, measures 14-15.5 mm and weighs 2.02 gm. The obverse side is very worn and shows a Romanized head left, EPPIL to left. The reverse side is off-centre and shows a victory left, holding wreath and standard. Catalogue reference VA 452-1. It is Atrebatic H type. TWRA-TYMAC-IA-83 Dated to c 20-43 AD and of the Trinovantes, Cunobelin. The coin is made of AR, measures 10.5-11.75 mm and weighs 0.73 gm. The obverse side is off-centre but shows crossed wreaths, letters in angles (only N visible). The reverse shows capricorn right, CVN below. It is an unpublished type, but other examples already in CCI. TWRA-TYMAC-IA-88 Dated to c 100 BC and of the Cantii. The coin is made of cast bronze potin, measures 14.5-15 mm in diameter and weighs 1.99 gm. The obverse side shows a Celticized head of Apollo left and the reverse shows a Celticized bull charging right, pellet on body. It is of Cantian A type. The coin is in poor condition with some corrosion. TWRA-TYMAC-IA-89 Dated to the 1st century BC and Central or Southern Gaulish. The coin is made of AE, measures 14.75-17.5 mm in diameter and weighs 4.41 gm. The obverse side shows a head left, of rather thick style. The reverse shows a bull charging right, exergual line below, MA above. The coin is very thick and brassy. The design resembles that of a potin coin. (1)
