Full Description

Building number 43, the Royal Marines School of Music. Single-storey, brick building of 1860 or 1861 originally used as the Garrison Chapel and Day School, now used as a rehearsal hall. The building is rectangular in plan with a secondary wing added to the north-west elevation between 1898 and 1914. It was probably added as a result of the building of a church on south barracks and the subsiquent conversion of the chapel to a practice hall for the Royal Marines. Built of yellow brick in English bond with a short, white stone bell tower. Part of North Barracks.. (1)

This building was bombed by the IRA in 1989. It was destroyed by arson in 2003 though the north gable was preserved as part of the adjacent memorial garden.
