Full Description

The now demolished Globe Theatre, building number 51at the Royal Marines School of Music, was a mid-Victorian garrison theatre, free-standing at the extreme south-west corner of the barracks. It was built in the early 1860s, probably as a more convenient replacement for the playhouse of 1798, which stood in the High Street and was converted to a shop (demolished circa 1912). It comprised a rectangular box with gables at either end and a loft and lantern over the stage. It had a restrained stock brick facade with red brick bands and up to five segmental arched openings. There was an auditorium with end balcony, raked stalls with plain side wall and a shallow curved proscenium arch. The theatre has now been demolished following the closure of the Royal Marines Music School at Deal
