Full Description
[TQ 53 71 Sited to Shire Hall Road]. Apparently erected in the latter part of the 16th Century. There was a carved chimney piece bearing the Tudor rose and dated 1591 in the dining room; the beams across the ceiling also had carvings of that period. The name Shire Hall indicates that the house was possibly used as a County Hall. Infortunately the building became very dilapidated and damaged by a fire which demolished all the farm buildings. It was pulled down towards the end of 1912. (1) Additional bibliography. (2) Archive material (3)
