Summary

Cottage, probably a 16th century Yeoman's House, having a central hall, examples of which may still be seen in many parts of Kent. The walls were constructed of timber-framing, with brick filling in places, plastered over externally. Demolished in 1937.

Full Description

[TQ 549 721] Sited to present Hawley Manor. The old building stood end ways to the public road, with the upper storey projecting in a picturesque manner. The walls were constructed of timber-framing, with brick filling in places, plastered over externally. The roof was pitched at about 55 degrees and was covered with old tiles. There was one large chimney and a later one at the west end. Probably the building was a Yeoman's House, having a central hall, examples of which may still be seen in many parts of Kent. Demolished in 1937. (1) C18 wall located to the NW, fronting Hawley rd. Laid in Flemish bond. (2)
