Full Description
`...at 11pm. the previous day in wind conditions NE force 6, the NORTHUMBERLAND lifeboat in tow of the VULCAN tug went out in response to burning tar barrels and other lights displayed by the barque LINDA of Whitby, which was ashore on the inner part of the North Sand Head. All her crew were rescued and landed safely. At 4.30am the following morning they were again out in the lifeboat with the LINDA'S master on board to see if she could be saved. They found her at daybreak, full of water and then spotted another wreck near the same place which proved to be the barque ARIEL.'
