`At 11pm. in NE. force 6 wind conditions and rain, guns were heard from the direction of the GULL light vessel. The Ramsgate lifeboat NORTHUMBERLAND, under tow of the VULCAN went out and after a while saw tar barrels burning and other ligts displayed from a wreck on the North Sand Head. The vessel lay amongst huge breakers, but the lifeboat still went in. Heavy seas washed Henry Venion overboard but was got back again and the lifeboat continued to the wreck where her crew were all taken off.'
