`...the lugger DIANA of Deal went off in a heavy gale of wind, rescuing ten men from the wreck which had stranded towards the south end of the Goodwins early that morning. The rigging of the wreck fouled the mast of the lugger and had it not been for the promptitude of Thomas Trott in jumping on board the wreck to cut away the gear, the lugger would have upset. A silver medal of the RNLI was voted to Trott, with a reward of 16 to be shared amongst the luggers crew.'
