Full Description

`...two of the survivors were taken to Ramsgate and the rest to Deal, including the captain. The vessel struck at 5.30pm. on the Friday but was not sighted until the morning of Saturday when both the Ramsgate and Deal lifeboats went out to her. The five survivors were found clinging to the mizzen top, whilst another man found dead, was lashed by rope to the bowsprit stay, swinging to and fro some two feet below the stay. Wounds on the head of this man, identified as Gustaf Karlsan, suggested that he had repeatedly struck the bow of the vessel. His body was cut down and landed at Ramsgate. At the resultant inquest held at Ramsgate Town Hall on 14th. December before the Sandwich Coronor...at 5.30pm on the Friday her master had called all hands on deck when breakers were seen. They tried to wear the ship but struck the sands, afterwards cutting down two masts. The body of the deceased was kept in No.6 store on the pier yard until the verdict. The wreck has disappeared.'
