`...Stranded on the W edge of the northern sand and although no less than four steam tugs, the Deal lifeboat and several Deal luggers assisting, they found it impossible to re-float her and the crew were taken off. She remained on the sands for eight days, during which time as much of her cargo as possible was got out and landed by hovellers boats. On the 2nd of September she was found to be on fire and was soon totally destroyed. How a nearly empty ship with nobody aboard managed to catch fire remains a mystery.'
