Full Description

`...In calm seas with a fine but dark night, the TRIDENT with all lights burning, was steaming at 8.5 knots. A green light of another vessel was sighted two miles ahead but no mast headlights. The other vessel, the SS. LORD ESLINGTON saw the TRIDENT'S lights, expected her to port her helm and struck her halfway between the forward rigging and her forecastle head. The captain and chief mate were both on the bridge of the TRIDENT, with one man at the wheel and two others on lookout. The TRIDENT took one hour and twenty minutes to sink. The LORD ESLINGTON picked up all the crew, steaming into Dover Roads, where they were transferred to a steam tug, landing them at 8.30am. They went direct to the Seaman's Home, having lost all their belongings in the wreck.' Add.C.D: 2 x decks; 5 x bulkheads; double bottom; f.castle 32ft.; b deck 40ft. Propulsion: Screw, 2cyl. comp.
