`...on Sunday, the smack RELIANCE of Ramsgate landed the shipwrecked crew of this steamer which they had picked up from their own boats. Between Friday and Monday, no less than 45 shipwrecked seamen were cared for at the Sailors Home in Ramsgate. The resources of the Institute became exhausted and an appeal went out for coats, trousers, hats, socks, boots and comforters.'
