`...shortly after 3 o'clock on Sunday morning last, in response to signals from the GULL and Goodwins lightvessels, the lifeboat, in tow of the tug VULCAN, put to sea and found a three masted schooner ashore on the SE part of the Goodwin Sands. The lifeboat BRADFORD, slipped from the tug and bore down on the stranded vessel. A line was passed arcoss and secured, but shortly after this parted and the lifeboat drifted away before anchoring. The Deal lifeboat MARY SOMERVILLE then appeared and rescued all seven crew of the 151 ton schooner, which became a total loss.'
