Full Description
A number of concrete walls and wall foundations were uncovered during a watching brief undertaken on a service trench immediately to the south of the former Officers Quarters at The Citadel, Western Heights, Dover. Too little was seen of these concrete structures to be certain of their interpretation. The construction suggested that they are of twentieth-century date, most probably belonging to the period of the Second World War. It seems quite possible that they represent different elements of one single, sub-surface structure extending for at least 24 metres along the south-eastern edge of the courtyard. What this structure might have been remains unknown. A brief search of available records has failed to identify anything of relevance here but a more detailed search of the archives might be productive. (1)
