Full Description

Left Riga on 13th September but had no proper charts for the voyage and those she did have were seven years old and uncorrected. She was struck by a heavy sea in the channel which shattered the deck cargo, causing her to lose some of the timber, the crew managing to secure the remainder. On Monday 26-OCT at 3pm, in thick rain they saw lights on both bow and luffed towards the Lightship to port. Just as they did so they struck the Goodwin Sands. Pieces of her false keel broke off, all attempts to refloat her failed and when they sounded the pumps found 12 feet of water in the hold. The mate, named Pernitz, wished to remain on board but the crew objected, stating that it was too dangerous. At 4pm they launched the boat and reached the lightship. Next morning the Margate lifeboat took them ashore. The vessel was valued at 5,000. She was lost simply because they did not know their position. The captain had used the lead and line only twenty minutes before she struck.
