The former Church of St Mary has long been in ruins. In 1660 one Sir Thomas Peyton had a design to repair ir, for which purpose he provided a quantity of timber, but in the night the country people stole the whole of it away, and also took the pulpit, pews etc that had been left outside the church. The ruins consist the nave and chancel toleraby entire, minus the roof.
