These crews attempted to lighten the vessel by throwing cargo overboard, but on Wednesday afternoon when the ship commenced to break up, the crew had to leave. Four or five hours later, she parted in line with her coal bunker, the forward part of the ship going down. A boat which held the belongings of the captain , crew and other valuables broke adrift.
