Full Description

Eight flint flakes from Upnor were noted by Roe in Maidstone Museum (1) and then also listed in the Southern Rivers Palaeolithic Project (4, 5). Roe specified seven of them as secondarily worked. Their origin is uncertain; Bather (2) reported that no artefacts were found in association with the Upnor elephant skeleton (see MWX20839), but Andrews (3) reports "flakes" in the immediately-overlying gravel bed, so these flakes might be from the deposit just above the elephant skeleton.
