Full Description
Excavations undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in the St. James area of Dover revealed the foundations of a substantial Medieval masonry structure which would have fronted Woolcomber Street. The foundations were cut by a set of post medieval graves (dating to between 1660 and the early C19th). Though it was not closely dated the building appears to have gone out of use well before the cemetery was established, suggesting an earlier medieval date. Too little survived to be sure of its overall size and plan, though it appears to have been at least 7m wide. (1)
