Full Description
Was involved in collision with the SS AMERICAN, of Antwerp. The BERTHA was cut in two and only Peter Norholm, son of the vessels master who had died on passage, was saved. The majority of the other crew were lost in their bunks. Norholm had leapt out of his bunk still in his night clothes and jumped straight into the sea just as she went down. He was later picked up by the steamship and landed at Dover.
