Full Description

During an archaeological excavation undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in the St James area of Dover, six chalk lined wells, all a post medieval date, were uncovered. These would have been situated within yards associated with the dwellings fronting the former St. James Street and Russell Place. Though these are clearly of a post medieval date, none are shown on either the 1851 or 1861 town maps suggesting that they had fallen out of use by this time. (1)
