Full Description
During an archaeological excavation undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in the St James area of Dover, the cellars of at least 10 19th century buildings were uncovered fronting onto the former sites of St. James’s Street and Clarence Street. It was suspected that many of these apparently late walls had completely replaced earlier ones, so that the Victorian plot layout may have actually preserved much of the earlier arrangement, without retaining many physical remains.
