Full Description
During an archaeological excavation undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in the St James area of Dover a yard area with boundary walls between two Medieval buildings, and apparently contemporary with them, was recorded. In detail the open yard was located in the southern angle between the two later medieval buildings and extending as far as the north-western edge of early Clarence Street. This was delimited along the south-west and south-east by stone boundary walls. The wall along the south-western side had undergone partial rebuilding several times, preserving an established property division until relatively recent times. A number of cess tanks and a later medieval well was located within the boundary walls of the yard. (1)
