Full Description
During an Archaeological Excavation undertaken on land directly to the south-west of Russell Street, Dover as part of the St. James area redevelopment, a series of earlier post medieval remains, including wells and tanks likely representing the presence of an open yard area, were uncovered cutting the underlying Medieval deposits. Late eighteenth- and nineteenth-century cartographic evidence also suggests that the excavation area was then open ground forming the rear gardens to properties that fronted onto St James’s Street.
