Ex: RHEINLAND. Drove ashore, was refloated only to go back on the Goodwins again about one mile away. The tug CHAMPION attempted to pull her clear, whilst the Walmer lifeboat and Deal boats attempted to save the crew. In so doing, the Walmer lifeboat became disabled and had to be towed to Ramsgate, the Kingsdown lifeboat finally bringing the crew ashore. The Belgian Government awarded two pounds to each member of the boat for service at the wreck and the RNLI presented a silver medal to James Laming for his services, as well as 41 years service as coxswain and 2nd coxswain.
