Full Description
Believed to have been torpedoed at 6.30am by a German U-Boat, but possibly mined. The explosion took place in the forward part of the vessel, and she sank in a few minutes. The captain and crew escaped in two boats, being picked up by a British torpedo boat destroyer and landed at Dover from whence they proceeded to London. Bound eventually for the USA, the ship had anchored at the N end of the Downs due to fog. A violent explosion took place just as they commenced to heave in the anchor cable. The crew were picked up three hours later. Add.C.D: P.deck 50ft; b.deck 71ft; f.castle 29ft; 1 x deck.
