Full Description

Master: Werry Date of Loss Qualifier: A Additional sources cited in United Kingdom Shipwreck Index. Lloyds List No.868, 16.03.1743(Fri)(R); GSS. Larn. R. 1977 p171

At this period the Julian Calendar was still used in Great Britain, with the New Year beginning on 25th March. Therefore the dates from 1st January to 24th March (inclusive) in modern reckoning are one year later than the year printed on Lloyd's List; the record has been amended to reflect this.

`On the 13th instant the ST DOMONICK, Werry, from Malaga for Dunkirk, was forced ashore near Sandown Castle.' (2)

There are two entries for this vessel in the United Kingdom Shipwreck Index, one under Kent Downs (BE), the other under Isle of Wight (BB), interpreting Sandown Castle as Sandown on the Isle of Wight; both entries give the name in the form ST DOMINIC, with the date of loss expressed as 1743 (Old Style), following source (2).

Master: Werry

Date of Loss Qualifier: A
