BRITISH MERCHANT MERCHANT VESSEL,1752 wreck of British cargo vessel which foundered in Pegwell Bay during a gale, apparently on her way from Dorset with Purbeck stone and oil. Constructed of wood, she was a sailing vessel.

'The -, Pelly, with oil and Purbeck stone, is sunk in Pegwell Bay...' (2)

'London, Sept. 2...We have an account by the said express [yesterday] that there has lately happened round the west coast a terrible hurricane...

'In the said hurricane ten sail of French fishing vessels was lost and drove ashore in Pegwell Bay. The -, Pelly, with oil, etc. sunk in the same bay.'

NB: The storm referred to is known to have begun on 26-AUG-1752.
