Full Description

Additional cargo included sugar and coffee. The vessel was driven on the main opposite the sea wall at Deal by a severe gale and left in a very dangerous position. Deal boatmen managed to throw a rope which was fastened to her bowsprit, by which means all the crew were saved but the mate, a young man. With one of his hands injured and disabled, he was unable to hold the rope properly, fell from the bowsprit and drowned only a few feet from shore. Despite there being many hundreds of spectators, none of them could help him. The vessel became a total wreck and the part of her cargo which was saved, was placed in the Lord Warden's depot.
