Vessel lost in wind conditions force 11 variable. Year Built: 1855 Crew: 23 Crew Lost: 1 Passengers: 0 Date of Loss Qualifier: A Additional sources cited in United Kingdom Shipwreck Index. Board of Trade Wreck Return.1850-61 summary
Vessel lost in wind conditions force 11 variable. (1)(2)
Place of loss expressed as "The Downs, Sandwich Bay". (1)(2)
NB: This vessel may be a candidate for identification with the vessel also lost in 1858, at the place now known as the "Cinder Bank", being located in roughly the right area; and is therefore linked with that vessel.
However, the cargo of the ECLIPSE was coal, not the eponymous cinders, although it is possible that she was carrying an additional cargo. Therefore it is also possible that the Cinder Bank wreck in 1858 was a completely different vessel.
