`Commanded by the brother of the coxswain of the Ramsgate lifeboat, the vessel has been wrecked and all hands perished. An hour or so later, a telegram was received at Ramsgate that the bodies of Captain Jarman, and a lad, thought also to be a native of Ramsgate, were washed ashore at Deal. The vessel had lost her course in the snow storms of last Wednesday evening, and whilst trying to enter the harbour struck on the Brake Sand, the captain's watch having stopped at 7.15pm. It was thought that the crew had time to launch their boat, since it was washed ashore near No.2 Battery, Deal, and contained a water cask and other things. At the same place, a ship's compass and some of her papers were washed ashore. The captain's body still held his gold watch and chain, plus #4.6s, a pocket book and some papers. The body of the boy has been identified as Dixon, of Margate. The letter in the captain's pocket was addressed to No.13 Frederick Street, Ramsgate, and dated 09.01.1867.' (1)(3)
