'On Monday morning, no less than six vessels were to be seen on shore in various parts of Pegwell Bay. Two ships had sunk in the Gull Stream, their masts and a portion of their sails and cordage can be seen above water, while a French brig is lying almost high and dry on the rocks near Dumpton. The Ramsgate lifeboat had been busy all night, having gone out first at 9pm. on Sunday, in response to signals from the Gull light vessel. The lifeboat had infact only arrived at Ramsgate earlier on Sunday morning, having been sent down by the National Lifeboat Institution to temporarily replace the BRADFORD, disables last week. She did not inspire the confidence of her crew, being smaller and less steady than the old boat, and on arrival on the Goodwins, where seas break with terrific force, the tug was obliged to keep a line aboard.
