(TQ 62663844) Breecher's Forge or Marriott's Croft, forge on River Teise. mentioned in 1557 and 1618, but by 1634 John Muddle held the land 'on which an iron mill lately stood', so by this date Breecher's Forge had stopped. There is only a very little forge cinder in the bed of the stream and there are no place names. (1) This forge seems very near to the Dundle Forge (TQ 63 NW 3) and the topo. position is poor. No cinder was found nor evidence of a pond-bay seen anywhere along this stretch of the river. (2) TQ 627384, Breechers Forge (Marriotts Croft), a water-powered site. No sign of bay, water system or working area to be found. Some cinder in the path and field at TQ 627387. This forge is apt to be confused with Benhall (TQ 63 NW 9) and Melhill(TQ 63 NW 4). A Mr Wybarne had ironworks with alien employees in 1544 and is likely to be the Wybarne listed with Leeche in 1574 as holding two forges in Frant.
