Monument record TQ 63 NW 6 - Site of Breecher's Forge, Tunbridge Wells

Summary

The site of a forge on the Teise. Breecher's Forge or Marriott's Croft, was first mentioned in 1557 but thought to have been out of use by 1634. A little forge cinder has been identified in the bed of the stream but no pond bay, water system or working area has been sighted. This forge seems very near to the Dundle Forge (TQ 63 NW 3) and has been previously confused with the Benhall (TQ 63 NW 9) and Melhill (TQ 63 NW 4) forges.
