'A SHIP AND CARGO SOLD FOR 24S. A remarkable shipping auction took place at Sandwich yesterday, when the hull and cargo of the schooner UNION, of Ipswich, were sold. The vessel is lying on the Sandwich flats, where she became a wreck in the recent bad weather. The hull was disposed of for one guinea [£1 1s] and the cargo of about 150 tons of grit realized only 3s. The gear and rigging fetched equally low prices. In addition to the value of the oak timber of which the vessel is built, the masts are still standing.' (3)
