Full Description

At anchor in the Downs to the N. of the pier in a severe NE. gale, she commenced to drag her anchors early in the morning. She drove past the pier at Deal, one of her booms striking and carrying away the lamp on the SE. corner. At 11am. she drove ashore opposite the premises then occupied by Messrs. Hinds and Son, Estate Agents on Deal seafront. The rocket apparatus was brought to the scene, the first rocket nearly decapitating two of the crew who were forced to duck below the bulwarks as it roared low over the deck. A second rocket dropped a line across the vessel and the four man crew were got ashore by breeches buoy. They were taken to the Lord Nelson Inn and given hot drinks, the ship meanwhile becoming a total wreck. She was sold on the spot, a large number of chamber pots in her cargo were recovered and graced the seafront at Deal in their dozens, till sold by auction.
