1799 incident in which a British cargo vessel stranded near Margate, while en route from Jamaica for London. She was afterwards weighed after discharging her cargo and taken to Margate for repair. Constructed of wood, she was a sailing vessel. Status: Casualty

'The GRAND DUKE, -, from Jamaica to London, on shore near Margate, is got off, after discharging nearly all the cargo.' (4)

'Margate, Feb. 19. The GRAND DUKE, from Jamaica, which was on the rocks near this place, has been weighed after discharging her cargo, and is brought in to be repaired.' (5)
