Full Description

An old Royal Navy frigate of 60 guns, sold out of service on 17th August 1784. Presumably retained by its new owners as a working vessel or possibly a hulk or store ship. Foundered in a position described as '3 leagues south of the North Foreland'. This would place it in the Downs, or on the Goodwin Sands. Neither of those locations are mentioned in the source and it is possible that vessel was lost east of the Goodwins. Year Built: 1742 Builder: Wells Date of Loss Qualifier: R Additional sources cited in United Kingdom Shipwreck Index. Gentleman's Magazine 1803, p1208
