'The CATHARINE GRIFFITHS, De Peyster, from London to Valparaiso, ran on shore near Dungeness, during a thick fog on Tuesday. She continued on shore yesterday, and, being considerably damaged, is not expected to be got off.' (2)

Source (3) spells the name of the vessel as CATHERINE GRIFFITHS. The form CATHARINE GRIFFITHS appears twice in (2), firstly as above; and secondly in the arrivals list at Deal for the 5th. The vessel appears in the departure list from Gravesend on the 3rd as CATHARINE GRIFFITH, De Peyster, for Valparaiso, etc. (4)
