[TQ 67554319] Moatlands [NAT] (1) Moatlands, a castellated house, is said to date from 1524. When the moat, nearly all of which remains (3), was cleared out in 1860, the old oak drawbridge came to light. (2-3) Moatlands is a large 19th c. brick house in castellated gothic style with no visible evidence of an earlier house. It is now used as a country club. To the W. of the house is a homestead moat, water-filled and generally in good condition although the N.W. angle suffered some mutilation when the drive to the house was constructed.
