Full Description

A building labelled 'Boom House' is situated on the South Pier of Dovers Western Dock on the First Edition OS map of the town (1862-1875). It is likley that this building either housed maintenance equipment of the Boom Defence (a navigational barrier located at the entrance to the harbour) or was the living/working quarters of those who controlled the operation of the boom defence. It is also possible that this building served both of these functions as it appears to have been relatively substantial in size. (1)
