Monument record TR 15 NE 1791 - Post-medieval landscaping features, St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury
Summary
Two post-medieval linear features were located during excavation prior to the construction of the St Augustine's Abbey visitor centre in 1996/7. They are the foundation trenches for a pair of culverts. They are though to relate to landscaping of the site in the 17th century, or to the construction of the hospital that stood on the site from 1791 to 1971. A token dating to 1778 and a small assemblage of 19th-20th century pottery were found in the fill of culvert 171.
