Summary
Prince William's Bastion was part of the original phase of construction of the Chatham Lines (1755-1758). It was greatly enlarged during the second phase of construction from 1779-1786 at which time it was pushed forward into the former field of fire to allow a new battery, Spur Battery, to be built on top of it. During the Napoleonic Wars casemated barracks were added. Like the rest of the Chatham Lines it was declared obsolete in 1860.
